Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Tumelo twins were declared winners of the 15km and 10km marathon female categories during the inaugural Okavango Road Race held in Okavango River Bridge, Mohembo on Saturday.<\/b><\/p>\n

Lesedi Tumelo of Maun BDF Athletics Club won the 15km marathon female category.<\/p>\n

For her efforts, she was rewarded with P10 000, while Pauline Keorapetse and Boipelo Montshiwa, who came second and third, received P7 000 and P5000 respectively.<\/p>\n

Another twin, Lesedinyana Tumelo, also from Maun BDF Athletics Club, won the 10km marathon female category.<\/p>\n

She was rewarded with P8 000, while Bontle Nnginya, who came second, won P6 000 and Keamogetse Mokoya got P4 000 for coming third.<\/p>\n

In the 15km race male category, Lopang Oontse of Mmadinare Athletics Club got first position, followed by Lazarus Too from Kenya and Kabo Jenamo in second and third positions respectively. And they received the same amount of prizes as female category winners.<\/p>\n

In the 10km male category, Othusitse Mokaraose scooped first position, while second and third positions went to Ronald Molapisi and Thatayaone Kelapile respectively and they won the same prize money as the females.<\/p>\n

Lesedi said in an interview that she was happy with her performance though she had not rested from a recent marathon.<\/p>\n

Lesedi, who was happy with the route, said she would participate in the race again.<\/p>\n

Oontse, who had just participate in the national championships, said he was well prepared for the race and was happy with how the competition went and prize monies.<\/p>\n

The race, which was organised by a Non-Profit making organisation, Okavango Human Wildlife Organisation, had 5km fun race, 10km and 15km categories and other segments and attracted participants across the country.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, North West District Commissioner, who was also the guest speaker, Thabang Waloka, said the race promoted sports in the area of conservation and tourism.<\/p>\n

The Okavango Human Wildlife Foundation organisation which is based in Maun, he said promoted co-existence between wildlife and humans.<\/p>\n

He therefore, said the race was the organisation\u2019s commitment to mitigate human-wildlife conflict since funds raised were to assist people affected by wild animals especially those who suffered permanent injuries.<\/p>\n
