Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Thursday May 23 marked the launch of Dikgosi Dixadile campaign in Maun, which seeks to combating Gender-Based Violence (GBV), teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, and low academic performance.<\/b><\/p>\n

Kgosi Tawana II of Batawana who officiated the event, emphasised the importance of teaching the youth good values and morals, which required concerted efforts from the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cEach kgosi is going to adopt a school and address the school assembly as a way of reaching out to the youth, providing mentorship and convening regular kgotla meetings, to engage parents,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Kgosi Tawana stressed the need to teach the youth Botho and then the significance of humility, to be able to navigate present-day challenges and become leaders of tomorrow.<\/p>\n

National Gender commissioner and patron for Dikgosi Dixadile, Kgosi Kealetile Moremi, said educational campaigns and similar interventions should be intensified, to curb rising social ills among the youth.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe cannot stand by while our youth engage in destructive behavior that not only harm them but also impact the overall well-being of our community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She said by engaging in open dialogue and fostering a culture of respect, empowerment, and accountability, the campaign would create a more inclusive and nurturing environment for youth to thrive and make informed decisions.<\/p>\n

Coordinator for Dikgosi Dixadile, Ms Vihae Tjiriange, said communities ought to mobilise and become a part of the solution to the challenges faced by the youth.<\/p>\n

Ms Tjiriange expressed gratitude to dikgosi for their dedication in uplifting the girl child and other young people in the district.<\/p>\n
