{"id":49295,"date":"2024-05-28T16:38:08","date_gmt":"2024-05-28T16:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/?p=49295"},"modified":"2024-05-28T16:47:37","modified_gmt":"2024-05-28T16:47:37","slug":"debswana-commits-p12m-towards-road-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/all-news\/debswana-commits-p12m-towards-road-project","title":{"rendered":"DEBSWANA COMMITS P12M TOWARDS ROAD PROJECT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Botswana. <\/strong><\/span><b>Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines have committed P12 million for a period of three years from 2023 to 2025 with a disbursement of four million Pula annually to support road infrastructure projects in Rakops and Letlhakane.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>OLDM General Manager, Mr Mogakolodi Maoketsa said during the contract signing and road handover to the contractor in Rakops recently.<\/p>\n<p>He said through the Building Forever and Corporate Social Investment programme, they endeavour to improve the lives of communities within the mine\u2019s zone of influence in line with Debswana\u2019s purpose of \u2018Make Life Brilliant.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He said in 2023, a 4.8 kilometre road was improved in Letlhakane village with gravelling undertaken at Phase one and two extensions to manage the bad road condition during the rainy season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are now here to invest another four million Pula for the improvement of roads in Rakops\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He said a kilometre road project for Rakops internal road had been funded through Debswana Corporate Social Investment programme to the tune of P4 million and it formed part of the larger project implemented in both Rakops and Letlhakane.<\/p>\n<p>Rakops internal road, he said would go a long way in benefitting not only the community of Rakops but Batswana and travellers in general. He further said Debswana was on a journey to make life better, saying through their various social impact programmes, they endeavour to minimise negative social risks and maximise socio-economic benefits for their communities.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Maoketsa indicated that Debswana\u2019s efforts to deliver sustainable and meaningful development could not be possible without the support of key stakeholders such as Boteti District Council and Boteti District Administration.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst Debswana was the financial sponsor, he said he was pleased to note that Boteti District Council was the technical sponsor for the project.<\/p>\n<p>The contractor Ms Lettie Moyawe of YLG Investment said they were determined to complete the project on time and on budget.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Moyawe also a resident of Rakops said she was delighted to have been offered the opportunity to do the project.<\/p>\n<p>Boteti Council deputy chairperson and also Tsienyane West Councillor commended Debswana for assisting with developments in area.
