Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN) and Isago Road to Recovery have recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a mutually beneficial partnership.<\/b><\/p>\n

Isago Road to Recovery is an organization dedicated to supporting People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs), founded by Mr Benson Kuhlman in 2023.<\/p>\n

The organization\u2019s primary goal is to empower and provide skills development and counseling to families and individuals living with disabilities.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, BUAN is an educational institution focused on making a positive impact at local, regional, and global levels.<\/p>\n

Sustainability is a key aspect of BUAN\u2019s operational philosophy, underscored by the establishment of a sustainability committee to integrate sustainable practices into the institution\u2019s operations.<\/p>\n

Professor Ketlhatlogile Mosepele, the Vice Chancellor of BUAN, emphasised the institution\u2019s commitment to social inclusion, particularly in the context of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n

He highlighted the importance of recognising and appreciating People With Disabilities(PWDs) as fundamental values aligned with the SDGs.<\/p>\n

Prof. Mosepele stressed the need for active engagement and interaction with individuals with disabilities to foster a more inclusive environment. He expressed BUAN\u2019s dedication to empowering people with disabilities, recognising agriculture and natural resources as vital components in enhancing their livelihoods and contributing to a green economy.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, he underscored the significance of providing accessible opportunities for individuals with disabilities to develop essential life skills through agriculture and natural resource-related initiatives.<\/p>\n

The collaboration with Isago is expected to create a supportive environment for PWDs to learn, grow, and access training and employment opportunities.<\/p>\n

The partnership between BUAN and Isago is poised to strengthen their collective efforts in achieving the SDGs, particularly those related to promoting inclusion and empowerment of people living with disabilities.<\/p>\n

He said the collaboration would also foster inclusivity and create multiple pathways for the disabled to participate in training programmes on food production systems, adding that it was aligned with their mission to enable and empower people living with disabilities to be active in the socio-economic development of the country.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Prof. Mosepele said the MoU signified their commitment to work with Isago towards creating a sustainable Botswana where everyone has an equal opportunity to attain wealth.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of this MoU, we commit to assist Isago to benefit from Temo Letlotlo and Thuo Letlotlo. Only then can we as BUAN claim to be a university that values social inclusion and claim to be an impactful university,\u201d Prof. Mosepele said.<\/p>\n

For his part, Mr Kuhlman, who is living with disability, said it was through self \u2013actualisation, self-motivation and self-awareness that he realised that he could do more hence he formed the organisation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI formed the organisation to give hope to people living with disabilities, and I believe there are limitless possibilities and opportunities for people living with disabilities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
