Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Botswana delegation has been applauded for doing a sterling job of marketing the country\u2019s diamonds at the JCK diamond show in Las Vegas.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Permanent Secretary to the President, Ms Emma Peloetletse, who is also Chairperson of the Minerals Policy Committee said in an interview Saturday that the team, led by President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, left an indelible mark in the minds of dealers within the diamond space in the way it conveyed its development and natural diamond story.<\/p>\n

She relayed further that timing of the JCK diamond show at the Venetian, which attracts the most diverse gathering of jewellery professionals, designers, manufacturers, and businesses, was spot on, since the country was reshaping its diamond trajectory to extract exponential returns for development.<\/p>\n

Ms Peloetletse also said the country\u2019s participation in the expo had presented it with opportunity to reaffirm its commitment and resolve to do business with its development partners in the diamond space, even amidst the demerger of De Beers by Anglo American.<\/p>\n

It is to this end that President Masisi had to come in person to assure confidence to players in the diamond industry that Botswana would continue to do business with them with renewed vigour, said the PSP.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year, we have even erected for the first time the Botswana house at the expo to demonstrate that we indeed mean business,\u201d she said. She further commended team Botswana for having greatly sold itself very well to tell its natural diamond development path and seek market for the prized commodity.<\/p>\n

She said the fact that Botswana had brought along some of its promising young jewellery designers to expose them to the world and hopefully expand their footprint was encouraging for an ambitious country that wanted to take its game up a notch in the diamond space.<\/p>\n

Since the country\u2019s direction was no longer to only extract and sell rough diamonds but to process the stones further and maximise benefits, Ms Peloetletse said it was something that would substantially benefit Batswana in terms of employment creation and further increase the country\u2019s GDP.<\/p>\n
