Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Lucara Botswana continues to positively impact the lives of the Boteti community.<\/b><\/p>\n

On Thursday, Lucara donated 68 computers and 34 printers to Boteti District schools, through the regional education office and the district council.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the donation ceremony, Lucara general manager (GM), Mr Johane Mchive said it was crucial for the nation to invest in education so as to build a better future for Botswana.<\/p>\n

The donation, funded with proceeds from the annual Lucara GMs cycling challenge, Mr Mchive said was in alignment with the company\u2019s adopted Sustainable Development Goals number four and 17.<\/p>\n

SGD4 talks about quality education while SGD17 is about partnership for the goals.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanted to impact positively on SGD4, which is to ensure quality, equitable, inclusive and accessible education to all our communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He highlighted that with the ICT equipment, the idea was to close the digital divide existing within communities, where some had access to computers as early as primary school while others only accessed a computer for the first time at the university.<\/p>\n

The Lucara GM further noted that learners\u2019 access to digital facilities was crucial as it eased research, hence improved academic results.<\/p>\n

Still with proceeds from the GM\u2019s cycling challenge, Mr Mchive said they were currently establishing a library in Mopipi.<\/p>\n

He said the library would be a state-of-the-art modern facility accessible to the surrounding villages.<\/p>\n

Mr Mchive said the library would be modern in the sense that it would also have e-books.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, according to the GM, plans were at an advanced stage for Lucara to build a primary school at Makgaba, near Mokubilo.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe project is also going to be funded by proceeds from the GMs cycling challenge,\u201d said Mr Mchive.<\/p>\n

Representing the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, Ms Oratile Thonkga commended Lucara for the gesture, adding that the donation was a milestone in achieving academic success in the district.<\/p>\n

She said learners would have a conducive learning environment, especially in the part of research.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Lucara Botswana, Abaricom and Boteti District Council.<\/p>\n

In the MoU, it has been agreed that following the purchase of ICT equipment, Abaricom would do all the connectivity, while Boteti District Council would be the custodian.<\/p>\n

Abaricom is a digital secured network solutions provider and system integration 100 per cent citizen-owned company.<\/p>\n
