Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>DJs, among them the legendary DJ Christos from South Africa, O Neal Africa, Boogie Sid Kyle and Juicy Jay took revellers down memorial late at the at the 70s, 80s and 90s disco party at Grand Palm on Saturday.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) dance stage was lit with and laser disco lights, with revelers clad in retro classic fashion.<\/p>\n

DJ Christos took the crowd back in time with his mid tempo deep soul house mix, playing for the early birds. The crowd reacted lovingly to the legendary DJ as they were reminded of their clubbing days. Reminiscing on coming to Botswana 15 years ago, DJ Christos said in an interview that Botswana still felt like home.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe used to come here every two weeks back in the days to play. And the highlight of my career here is the love I always get from the people; I have made friends in Botswana,\u201d DJ Christos said.<\/p>\n

DJ Christos praised the industry saying he had realised that in the past three years, the night live had come alive and with good events. \u201cBig up to Botswana, this is going to go a long way and it will have a good impact on the entertainment industry in Botswana,\u201d he said. DJ Christos said he had enrolled three students from Botswana at his DJ academy in South Africa, adding that one of them had graduated and ready for the market.<\/p>\n

He said he would conduct capacity building workshops in Botswana to contribute to the growth of the entertainment industry.<\/p>\n

After slowly getting into the mood of the night, revellers were tuned up by Zibanani \u2018O\u2019Neal Africa\u2019 Madumo. The talented Selebi Phikwe-born DJ, now based in South Africa lit up the GICC hall with his selectively curated 70s, 80s and 90s mix.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Neal Africa spun the turntables, toggling between to isolate and extend percussion breaks with oldies hits. It was this technique that saw the dance floor fill up with dancers who have perhaps spent days and weeks polishing and practicing their moves. O\u2019Neal Africa\u2019s set brought nostalgia to many as they remembered him from his RB2 days.<\/p>\n

\u201cI always attend every show that has O\u2019Neal in the line-up, he plays great sets and we love him,\u201d said Gofa Seputla who added that she was also from Selebi Phikwe. \u201cAlthough sometime his sets bring us old bitter sweet memories of our failed love relationships, O\u2019Neal puts life to the show. I enjoy his sets every time, and today he was in his element especially that he did not remind us of our failed oldies relationships,\u201d said Mod Sera jokingly.<\/p>\n

The ultimate 70s, 80s and 90s disco party\u2019s highlight was perhaps the attendance of an elderly couple,. Kate and Mark Mills said in an interview that the night reminded them of how they met decades ago at a similar disco event in Europe. \u201cI have great memories of those days and the people who grew up dancing to this lovely music, and it brought me love which I still cherish,\u201d said Mark. His wife Kate also had great memories about such events.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese events are always full of fantastic memories. I met my husband there and he was the life of the party then and I could not just ignore his charismatic presence at the time,\u201d she said adding that she also met life-long friends.<\/p>\n
