Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Zambia\u2019s official ratification of the Constitution and Convention of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) is a momentous stride towards enhancing regional telecommunications and ICT development across Africa.<\/b><\/p>\n

Under the dedicated leadership of Hon. Felix Mutati, Zambia\u2019s MiniUnion\u2019s Science and Technology, and the efforts of Mr. Alfred Musemuna, Zambia\u2019s Charge d\u2019Affaires in Kenya, the ratification was delivered to ATU Secretary General Mr. John Omo at the Union\u2019s headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.<\/p>\n

Hon. Felix Mutati emphasized Zambia\u2019s efforts to advance telecommunications and ICT, recognizing the ATU\u2019s efforts to promote connectivity and digital inclusivity across the continent.<\/p>\n

The ratification not only allows Zambia full engagement in ATU activities, eligibility for voting and elective roles within the Union, but also opens the door for participation in strategic initiatives aimed at bolstering ICT infrastructure, thereby accelerating the country\u2019s technological advancement.<\/p>\n

ATU Secretary General Mr John Omo hailed Zambia\u2019s ratification as a pivotal moment for regional cooperation in telecommunications. He stressed the importance of collective efforts, such as Zambia\u2019s commitment, in driving innovation and digital inclusion in Africa, a goal that the ATU and its member countries are dedicated to achieving.<\/p>\n

Mr Musemuna echoed these sentiments, highlighting Zambia\u2019s continental frameworks for technological advancement.<\/p>\n

With Zambia\u2019s ratification, 32 out of the 52 African countries represented by the ATU have now endorsed the Union\u2019s Resolution and Convention, originally established in 1999 and revised in 2014. This collective effort underscores the unity and collaboration in African ICT development.<\/p>\n

This move underscores Zambia\u2019s commitment to regional solidarity and its proactive stance in leveraging telecommunications for socio-economic development in Africa.<\/p>\n
