Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Former Selebi Phikwe West Member of Parliament (MP) Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse was on Thursday endorsed by MPs as Speaker of the 13th Parliament.<\/b><\/p>\n

He was the only nominee and becomes the 10th Speaker of Botswana Parliament, succeeding past immediate Speaker, Mr Phandu Skelemani.<\/p>\n

Mr Keorapetse was MP for Selebi Phikwe West for two terms from 2014-2024, initially under the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) ticket and later under the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).<\/p>\n

He did not succeed in his bid to win the constituency for the third time in the October 30 general elections.<\/p>\n

He was Leader Of Opposition during the 12th Parliament.<\/p>\n

A Political Science graduate, Mr Keorapetse’s political career started with the BCP, where he remained for a long time, but left the party in 2022.<\/p>\n
