{"id":59792,"date":"2024-11-29T19:28:07","date_gmt":"2024-11-29T19:28:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/all-news\/aging-unfolds-in-ones-body-at-remarkably-different-rates-research"},"modified":"2024-11-29T19:55:48","modified_gmt":"2024-11-29T19:55:48","slug":"aging-unfolds-in-ones-body-at-remarkably-different-rates-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/all-news\/aging-unfolds-in-ones-body-at-remarkably-different-rates-research","title":{"rendered":"Aging Unfolds in One\u2019S Body at Remarkably Different Rates: Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Botswana. <\/strong><\/span><b>Scientists at Stanford University, have found that aging is much more haphazard than we once thought, starting in different parts of our bodies at different times, possibly long before we\u2019re even thinking about aging.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s also personal, occurring at a unique molecular level inside each of us, and the process may be partially within our control,\u201d said the report. \u201cOnce we know how our own organs are aging, we may be able to brake or speed that process by how we live.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By using advanced molecular biology, genetics and big data to analyze blood samples from people, scientists can tell that some of us are \u201cheart agers,\u201d meaning our hearts appear much older than the rest of our bodies, or we\u2019re \u201cbrain agers,\u201d with a relatively old brain in our skulls, or if we\u2019re fortunate, we might be \u201cbrain youthers,\u201d with a brain relatively younger than any other organ we possess.<\/p>\n<p>We could also be \u201cmuscle agers\u201d or \u201cliver youthers.\u201d Almost any organ can be the first to show signs of extreme aging. \u201cThe consequences for our health are considerable. In one of the largest human studies to date of organ aging, Stanford scientists found that heart agers are far more likely to develop heart failure than other people, while brain youthers are about 80 percent less likely to develop dementia in later years than people with average or old brains,\u201d said the report.<\/p>\n<p>The results underscore \u201cjust how complicated aging is,\u201d Hamilton Se-Hwee Oh, a postdoctoral researcher who led the study while at Stanford, was quoted as saying.
