Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>In a world where the adage \u201cBlood is thicker than water\u201d is often misunderstood, music artist Apollo D redefines its meaning in his latest offering of a 10-track album that borrows the idiom for its title.<\/b><\/p>\n

The project delves into themes of loyalty, family and personal growth, challenging the conventional view of family as defined solely by blood ties.<\/p>\n

For Apollo D, family is also found in the unwavering support of those who have stood by him \u2013 his fans. The album, which dropped last Friday, is as much a celebration of them as it is a reflection of his life\u2019s journey.<\/p>\n

Fans like family<\/p>\n

The album\u2019s title draws from the lesser-known full quote: \u201cThe blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apollo D told Time Out in an interview that the phrase resonates deeply with him, symbolising the loyalty of his fans who have often felt like family more than some of his blood relatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis project is a way of honouring those who have supported me from the beginning of my career,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

A four-year labour of love<\/p>\n

Crafted over four years, the album represents a period of healing and transformation for Apollo D. From the COVID-19 pandemic\u2019s crippling impact on the music industry to his own battles with inner demons, the project saw him record nearly 30 songs, narrowing it down to the top-tier 10.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a journey of healing. I had to heal my inner child, unlearn toxic behaviours, and forgive myself,\u201d he noted, adding that his producer, Bangu Matenge, played the dual role of therapist and true friend that helped him channel his emotions into music.<\/p>\n

Thoughtful collaborations<\/p>\n

The album showcases a dynamic blend of sounds, reflecting Apollo D\u2019s current stage of life. Partnering with producer Bangu, Apollo D aimed to create a mature and relevant body of work.<\/p>\n

The collaborations on the album were carefully chosen to enhance its narrative. One standout track, \u201cGrateful,\u201d features award-winning artist Han-C and exemplifies the seamless blend of melody and introspection that defines the album.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost of my collaborators were vocalists brought in to add melody, which complements the message,\u201d Apollo explained.<\/p>\n

Limited edition merchandise<\/p>\n

In addition to the album release, Apollo D has launched limited edition merchandise to commemorate the project. It\u2019s his way of further connecting with the fans who have stood by him through thick and thin.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo my day one fans, thank you for always believing in me even when I couldn\u2019t believe in myself,\u201d he said, his heartfelt gratitude almost palpable.<\/p>\n
