Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Visiting CAF president, Patrice Motsepe says it will be beneficial for Botswana to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations finals.<\/b><\/p>\n

Motsepe, who was in Gaborone (Monday), held meetings with the Minister of Sport, Gender, Youth and Culture, Tumiso Rakgare, as well as football officials.<\/p>\n

Speaking during a meeting with football representatives at Lekidi Centre, Motsepe said Botswana stands to benefit from hosting CAF\u2019s flagship competition. Botswana wants to co-host the competition with Namibia.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is my duty to ensure that Botswana football grows. There is no CAF if football doesn\u2019t grow. I leave Botswana confident and proud. You have the talent. Days of talking about potential are gone,\u201d Motsepe said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is absolutely no reason why you should not host the AFCON finals,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Motsepe commended the Botswana Football Association (BFA) following the Mares\u2019 historic qualification to the Africa Women Cup of Nations finals.<\/p>\n

Earlier, BFA president, Maclean Letshwiti told Motsepe that the country is in the process of transforming football.<\/p>\n

Letshwiti said most teams were still run as societies and it is BFA’s desire to see football turn professional and clubs operate as private companies.<\/p>\n

Football officials shared their experiences with Motsepe, raising concerns over the unequal treatment of women\u2019s football.<\/p>\n

Some said support from the private sector was not sufficient to help move football forward.<\/p>\n
