Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Despite the government\u2019s initial intentions to extend the structure of Kgomokasitwa Health Post, the current plot size has proven to be too small for the proposed development.<\/b><\/p>\n

Assistant Minister of Health Mr Lawrence said the Village Development Committee (VDC) has been tasked with the search for a larger plot, and the process was still ongoing.<\/p>\n

Mr Ookeditse also provided updates on several health posts in the area. He revealed that the Kgomokasitwa facility comprised a small three-room building, primarily used for multipurpose consultations and various health services.<\/p>\n

Regarding Magotlhwane Health Post, Mr Ookeditse said there were improvements with a four-room building that underwent renovation and was completed on time in April.<\/p>\n

Ntlhantlhe clinic comprises outpatient and maternity wings; however, the waiting area has been deemed inadequate, leading to the construction of a new structure that commenced in 2022. Mr Ookeditse acknowledged delays due to multiple revisions of project design briefs caused by structural issues, including a leaking roof.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, he indicated that construction resumed on December 2 and was expected to conclude by the end of January next year.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, he noted that Lekgolobotlo Health Post, also a four-room facility with a multipurpose consultation room, had been renovated in 2019. To supplement the existing structure, a porta-cabin has been introduced for Integrated Disease Control and Management (IDCC).<\/p>\n

Another facility, Ranaka Clinic, includes outpatient and maternity wings, but the construction of separate ablution blocks for male and female patients had faced delays due to contractor abandonment.<\/p>\n

Assistant Minister said Southern District Health Management Team has recently communicated their commitment to complete the project.<\/p>\n

Previously, the clinic had only two toilets, one for staff and another designated for patients.<\/p>\n

The project is expected to be completed by the end of January 2025.<\/p>\n

Mr Ookeditse said that, due to a shortage of ambulances, and considering the close proximity of Magotlhwane to both Kgomokasitwa and Ntlhantlhe clinics, each equipped with ambulances<\/p>\n

Moshupa\/Manyana MP Mr Karabo Gare, had sought an update on the status of health facilities in the Kgomokasitwa, Magotlhwane, Ntlhantlhe, Lekgoloboto, and Ranaka.<\/p>\n

Mr Gare also asked if the minister was aware that the ambulance meant to service Magotlhwane was sent for service over 10 years ago but was never brought back.<\/p>\n
