Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Botswana\u2019s elite sprinters Letsile Tebogo, Bayapo Ndori and Leungo Scotch are among the country\u2019s first-rate athletes who are gearing up for an intensive training camp in South Africa as part of their preparations for the 2025 athletics season.<\/b><\/p>\n

Renowned coach Kebonyemodisa Dose Mosimanyane revealed the plans in an interview, highlighting the athletes\u2019 current training base in Maun.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis phase in Maun is crucial for conditioning and building endurance,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen we move to South Africa, the focus will shift to refining technique and enhancing performance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ideal environment<\/p>\n

Slated for February or March, the South Africa camp will see the athletes train in state-of-the-art facilities in Potchefstroom and the Royal Bafokeng region. Mosimanyane emphasised that these locations provide an ideal environment to fine-tune their skills for a packed athletics calendar.<\/p>\n

The 2025 season includes marquee events such as the WANDA Diamond League, World Relays, World Indoor Championships, and the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.<\/p>\n

Expectations are high from Botswana\u2019s athletes, particularly after the nation\u2019s strong performances in recent international competitions.<\/p>\n

Historic moment<\/p>\n

At the 2023 World Athletics Championships in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, Tebogo earned silver in the 100m and bronze in the 200m, marking a historic moment for Botswana. His success continued at the 2024 Olympics where he clinched gold in the 200m while the men\u2019s 4x400m relay team secured silver.<\/p>\n

Botswana now aims to build on this momentum heading into Tokyo, where the World Athletics Championships will take place from 13 to 21September 2025. The event, one of the world\u2019s largest sporting spectaculars, will attract over 2,000 athletes from approximately 200 countries.<\/p>\n

Where legends are made<\/p>\n

Tokyo will host the World Athletics Championships for the second time, its first since 1991. The event debuted in Helsinki, Finland, in 1983 and remains a global stage where legends are made.<\/p>\n

For Botswana\u2019s athletes, the upcoming training camp in South Africa represents a critical step towards maintaining their dominance and potentially adding to the country\u2019s medal tally on the world stage.<\/p>\n
