Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>In a heartfelt tribute to Dr Gaositwe Chiepe, President Advocate Duma Boko drew to attention the need for humility and unity among all Batswana.<\/b><\/p>\n

“Failing to enact the aspect of humility would mean failing Dr Chiepe, who is part of the epic narrative of Botswana,\u201d President Boko said.<\/p>\n

He hailed Dr Chiepe as a pivotal figure in Botswana’s history, noting her courage, vision and integrity.<\/p>\n

He stressed the importance of recognising the country\u2019s glorious past and striving to be exemplary leaders.<\/p>\n

The President urged citizens to reflect on their contributions to the country\u2019s present, advocating for collective efforts to embrace the lessons from Dr Chiepe\u2019s life.<\/p>\n

He called for innovative ideas that could further elevate Botswana, adding that political differences should not prevent collaboration for the nation\u2019s betterment.<\/p>\n

Boko lamented the prevalent abuse of office for personal gain and called for a communal approach to governance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must shun practices that exploit public resources for individual wealth,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n

For his part former Permanent Secretary, Mr Charles Tibone, has called for a revival of the high standards of integrity that existed during the tenure of the late Dr Gaositwe Chiepe who shunned corruption.<\/p>\n

Mr Tibone described her as \u2018incorruptible,\u2019 highlighting that Botswana’s ranking as one of the least corrupt countries was a testament to her leadership during her era.<\/p>\n

He said Botswana’s reputation har since eroded, with the country rising up the corruption ladder in recent years.<\/p>\n

Mr Tibone made a plea on the importance of restoring the high standards of integrity that Dr Chiepe instilled in the public service.<\/p>\n

Mr Tibone, who first met Dr Chiepe in 1972 while serving at the Botswana High Commission in London, credits the late with shaping his career through mentorship.<\/p>\n

During their time together in two different ministries, he observed that Dr Chiepe was a workaholic, uncompromising on punctuality and believed in productivity.<\/p>\n
