{"id":67061,"date":"2025-04-15T18:38:29","date_gmt":"2025-04-15T18:38:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/all-news\/burkina-faso-draws-lessons-from-botswana"},"modified":"2025-04-15T18:38:29","modified_gmt":"2025-04-15T18:38:29","slug":"burkina-faso-draws-lessons-from-botswana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/all-news\/burkina-faso-draws-lessons-from-botswana","title":{"rendered":"Burkina Faso Draws Lessons from Botswana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Botswana. <\/strong><\/span><b>Special Advisor to the President of Burkina Faso on Natural Resources, Mr Nicolas Kagambega has praised Botswana as a continental model of political stability and effective governance.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>In an interview following a courtesy call to the Ministry of International Relations, Special Advisor to the President of Burkina Faso on Natural Resources, Mr Kagambega who led a delegation on a week-long benchmarking mission to Botswana, said: \u201cBotswana\u2019s prudent management of its mineral wealth, especially diamonds, and its strong institutions offer valuable lessons for Burkina Faso\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The mission aimed at strengthening collaboration and learning from Botswana\u2019s well-regarded successes in policy formulation, governance, and mineral resource management.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are particularly interested in Botswana\u2019s approach to policy coherence, anti-corruption measures, and citizen engagement in governance,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kagambega said Botswana stood out as a good example of good governance and anti-corruption efforts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have chosen to learn from Botswana as Burkina Faso begins to develop its mining sector,\u201d he added, saying they want to ensure that the benefits of their natural resources reach the wider population.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBurkina Faso is relatively new in the mining sector, and we are eager to understand how to manage the entire mining value chain, from exploration to production, beneficiation, and revenue distribution,\u201d said Mr Kagambega, further stating that Botswana\u2019s example showed how good governance and long-term planning could ensure that underground resources truly benefit the people.<\/p>\n<p>The delegation studied Botswana\u2019s mineral revenue management systems, including the establishment of sovereign wealth funds and the integration of mining policy with national development planning. Botswana\u2019s Minerals Policy, which emphasises sustainability, local beneficiation, and transparency, was highlighted as a best practice.<\/p>\n<p>For her part, Ambassador Josephine Molefe welcomed the benchmarking visit, describing it as an opportunity to strengthen south-south cooperation.
