Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>When the suspended Botswana Police Service (BPS) Commissioner Keabetswe Makgophe was arrested in March, a working docket containing damning \u2018corruption\u2019 allegations against the Head of the Directorate on Intelligence and Security (DISS) Peter Magosi was allegedly found in his possession.<\/b><\/p>\n

Confidential security sources claim that Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) investigators had tasked Makgophe with storing the copy for safe keeping.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not yet clear if the DISS knew that the Police Commissioner had a copy of the docket on their boss but discovering that document changed the entire investigation they were conducting at the time,\u201d a confidential source claimed.<\/p>\n

At the time, the DISS was investigating Makgophe on allegations of aiding and abetting the unlawful possession of firearms by former president Ian Khama and ex spy chief Isaac Kgosi.<\/p>\n

Last month Makgophe, Khama, Kgosi and Deputy Permanent Secretary Bruno Paledi were summoned before court and are now facing a total of close to 50 charges ranging from receiving stolen property, unlawful possession of firearms, procuring the registration of firearms by false pretences and ownership of unregistered firearms.<\/p>\n

Unravelling the dossier allegedly discovered at the Police headquarters, another confidential source said that the DCEC had a premonition that in case the original ends up being stolen or lost under any circumstances, they will have a copy with Makgophe.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe practice is that the DCEC normally retains the original dockets and forwards the working copy to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). In this case, the dossier was not yet handed over to the DPP. Makgophe only kept the copy in case something happened to the original,\u201d the confidential source said.<\/p>\n

Since Magosi and Makgophe do not see eye-to-eye, this dossier allegedly sealed the fate of the beleaguered Police Commissioner. \u201cThe new target is now DCEC Director General Tymon Katlholo and some of his officers.\u201d A visit to Katlholo\u2019s outfit happened on May 3rd, 2022 when the DIS came knocking at the DCEC headquarters. This mission, it is alleged, was to retrieve the original dossier and destroy it.<\/p>\n

Makgophe was not available to respond to the reports while the DCEC confirmed the raid at their facilities.<\/p>\n
