Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Central District police have been hit by a wave of theft cases of the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) electric copper cables.<\/b>
\nPolice revealed they are investigating two cases of copper cable theft recorded over the weekend in Palapye and Serowe in which thieves stole electric copper cables from homes.<\/p>\n

No 2 district officer commanding, Senior Superintendent Paul Oketsang told The Monitor they are concerned with the offence having grown prevalent in the Palapye and Serowe areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt looks like the criminals target unoccupied and vacant houses and cut electric cables from the electric pole to the house,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese cases are a concern because we record them every week. Looking at the frequency of the theft incidents we suspect that the criminals might be having a market [to supply] and the demand is high.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oketsang stated that investigations into the matter were ongoing to arrest suspects.<\/p>\n
