At Open Voices: An Open Mic Session, the lights are low, the mic is live, and the stakes are simple show up, speak and feel everything. Recently, voices like Poem the Answer, Raii and Ether-Real took the stage, each bringing their own rhythm to a growing cultural pulse.<\/p>\n

But this isn\u2019t just a show. It\u2019s a movement in the making.<\/p>\n

FILLING THE SILENCE<\/p>\n

For organiser Eddy Mihigo, the mission is clear: create space where there was none.<\/p>\n

\u201cBotswana seems to have a shortage of small platforms that offer a chance for emerging artists to showcase their talent. This is the gap we\u2019re closing.\u201d<\/p>\n

And in that gap? Magic happens.<\/p>\n

NO PRESSURE, JUST PRESENCE<\/p>\n

No bookings. No paychecks. No hierarchy.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the secret sauce.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no pressure,\u201d Mihigo told Time Out. \u201cAt times, we get seasoned artists doing a mashup with a newbie.\u201d The result? A rare kind of artistic democracy where nerves, talent and raw courage collide on equal footing.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not about perfection. It\u2019s about presence.<\/p>\n

WHY LIVE STILL MATTERS<\/p>\n

In an age of filters and fast content, Open Voices is defiantly analog. You can\u2019t edit a missed note or rewrite a trembling verse in real time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey help ground us all,\u201d Mihigo explained.<\/p>\n

And maybe that\u2019s the point. To remember what it feels like to be human, out loud.<\/p>\n

MOMENTS THAT MAKE IT<\/p>\n

Every now and then, the room shifts.<\/p>\n

Like when a first time singer, Kel.lie, stepped up terrified, untested and delivered. No gimmicks. Just guts.<\/p>\n

A reminder that everyone starts somewhere.<\/p>\n

Mihigo said: \u201cThis reminded me of the fact of why the platform exists, for emerging talent.\u201d<\/p>\n

FROM EVENT TO EVOLUTION<\/p>\n

Since 2023, Open Voices has moved through the city from Zambezi Towers to Main Mall, now finding its rhythm at Court Five. Each stop refining the vibe, sharpening the purpose.<\/p>\n

But Mihigo is thinking bigger: mentorship, international collaborations, a pipeline from open mic to main stage.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt every stop, I tried to modify it a little bit. Here at Court Five, the focus is more on singing, poetry and instrumentation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
