Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The highly anticipated judgment in the former permanent secretary to the president, Carter Morupisi and his wife and co-accused, Pinny Morupisi’s trial against the state has been postponed, again.<\/b>
\nThe judgment was first scheduled for May 3, then this year to today (June 7), but due to the unavailability of the presiding judge, the judgment was delayed again. It is now expected on October 31, or anytime before then as announced today in court.<\/p>\n

Morupisi and his spouse are on trial facing charges ranging from money laundering and abuse of office, relating to the use of funds belonging to Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund (BPOPF) for personal gain when he was the fund\u2019s chairperson.<\/p>\n

The state in its allegations said public funds were used in which Morupisi had allegedly purchased a Toyota Land Cruiser for his wife\u2019s business with funds diverted from BPOPF coffers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Cruiser was apparently purchased at a total of P630,988.99, to be proceeds of crime, as it was funded from BPOPF and CMB,\u201d said the state.<\/p>\n

He was accused of acting together with the wife in her personal capacity and as the director of R7 Group to receive a valuable consideration, to wit, the Land Cruiser for himself and his wife\u2019s company.<\/p>\n

However, Morupisi has denied the allegations and has denied getting money from BPOPF, giving an account during the trial of the paper trail as to how he was able to purchase the vehicle for his wife.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was absolutely nothing criminal that I did, I signed some papers only because I was obliged to sign the agreement on behalf of BPOPF in terms of the rules of the fund,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
