Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The festivities of the Mares\u2019 debut win at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) are over as head coach, Gaolethoo \u2018Ronaldo\u2019 Nkutlwisang wants a disciplined performance against Nigeria.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Mares meet the Super Eagles tonight at the Stade Moulay Hassan at 10pm. The local girls are top of Group C after they enjoyed a 4-2 tournament debut win over Burundi on Monday. This evening, the team\u2019s task is much bigger as they face the WAFCON defending champions. The Mares\u2019 opponents have won the last three editions of the competition.<\/p>\n

The Super Falcons enter the tie like a wounded bird after South Africa clipped their wings with a 2-1 loss in their opening game. Speaking to Mmegi Sport this morning, Nkutlwisang said the technical team has outlined a game plan for their superior opponents and will need a disciplined effort from her players.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know Nigeria, what team they are and what they are capable of. Our game plan is to work on the team\u2019s weaknesses and try to utilise that to our advantage. Nigeria are a class higher than us in terms of technical and tactical strengths, but we are here to fight. Like any other team they have their weaknesses and we will be trying to use those to our advantage. We just need our players to be focused and take instructions as they are, they need to be mature and disciplined because the technical team has come up with a plan that we believe will work against a team like Nigeria. I cannot say much on our approach but the least we want from the match is a point, if we get three that will be a bonus,\u201d Nkutlwisang said.<\/p>\n

Ronaldo further acknowledged the weight of the tie. A win for the Mares will take the team to the quarterfinals before their final group stages tie against South Africa while Nigeria will look to save their tournament after their defeat to Banyana Banyana.<\/p>\n
