Le champ de lumi\u00e8re infrarouge oscillant peut exciter les mol\u00e9cules d\u2019un \u00e9chantillon \u00e0 vibrer \u00e0 des fr\u00e9quences sp\u00e9cifiques ou entra\u00eener des courants \u00e9lectriques ultrarapides dans les semi-conducteurs. Toute personne souhaitant exploiter la forme d\u2019onde oscillante des impulsions lumineuses ultracourtes, pour piloter des processus \u00e9lectro-optiques de pointe par exemple, est confront\u00e9e \u00e0 la m\u00eame question : comment contr\u00f4ler au mieux la forme d\u2019onde elle-m\u00eame. La g\u00e9n\u00e9ration d\u2019impulsions ultracourtes avec des formes d\u2019onde ajustables a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9montr\u00e9e dans diff\u00e9rentes gammes de longueurs d\u2019onde comme l\u2019UV-visible et le proche infrarouge. Les physiciens de l\u2019\u00e9quipe attoworld du LMU, de l\u2019Institut Max Planck d\u2019optique quantique (MPQ) et du Centre hongrois d\u2019empreintes mol\u00e9culaires (CMF) ont maintenant r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 g\u00e9n\u00e9rer des impulsions ultracourtes dans l\u2019infrarouge moyen et \u00e0 contr\u00f4ler avec pr\u00e9cision leurs formes d\u2019onde de champ \u00e9lectrique. Avec ce manipulateur de forme d\u2019onde infrarouge \u00e0 port\u00e9e de main, de nouvelles possibilit\u00e9s de contr\u00f4le optique pour les applications biom\u00e9dicales et l\u2019\u00e9lectronique quantique sont \u00e0 port\u00e9e de main.<\/p>\n<p>La base de la nouvelle source infrarouge moyen est un syst\u00e8me laser stabilis\u00e9 qui g\u00e9n\u00e8re des impulsions lumineuses avec une forme d\u2019onde d\u00e9finie avec pr\u00e9cision \u00e0 des longueurs d\u2019onde proches de l\u2019infrarouge. Les impulsions consistent en une seule oscillation de l\u2019onde lumineuse et ne durent donc que quelques femtosecondes. Lorsque ces impulsions sont envoy\u00e9es dans un cristal non lin\u00e9aire appropri\u00e9, la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration d\u2019impulsions infrarouges \u00e0 grande longueur d\u2019onde peut \u00eatre induite en tirant parti de processus complexes de m\u00e9lange de fr\u00e9quences. De cette fa\u00e7on, l\u2019\u00e9quipe a r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 produire des impulsions lumineuses avec une couverture spectrale exceptionnellement large de plus de trois octaves optiques, de 1 \u00e0 12 microm\u00e8tres. Les chercheurs ont non seulement pu comprendre et simuler la physique sous-jacente des processus de m\u00e9lange, mais ont \u00e9galement d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 une nouvelle approche pour contr\u00f4ler avec pr\u00e9cision les oscillations de la lumi\u00e8re infrarouge moyenne g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9e. passant par le r\u00e9glage des param\u00e8tres d\u2019entr\u00e9e du laser.<\/p>\n<p>Les formes d\u2019onde r\u00e9glables qui en r\u00e9sultent peuvent, par exemple, d\u00e9clencher s\u00e9lectivement certains processus \u00e9lectroniques dans les solides, ce qui pourrait permettre d\u2019atteindre des vitesses de traitement des signaux \u00e9lectroniques beaucoup plus \u00e9lev\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019avenir. \u00ab Sur cette base, on pourrait envisager le d\u00e9veloppement de l\u2019\u00e9lectronique contr\u00f4l\u00e9e par la lumi\u00e8re \u00bb, explique Philipp Steinleitner, l\u2019un des trois auteurs principaux de l\u2019\u00e9tude. \u00ab Si les dispositifs opto-\u00e9lectroniques devaient fonctionner aux fr\u00e9quences de la lumi\u00e8re g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9e, vous pourriez acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer l\u2019\u00e9lectronique d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui d\u2019au moins un facteur de 1000. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Les physiciens d\u2019attoworld accordent une attention particuli\u00e8re \u00e0 l\u2019utilisation de la nouvelle technologie de la lumi\u00e8re pour la spectroscopie des mol\u00e9cules. Lorsque la lumi\u00e8re infrarouge moyenne traverse un liquide \u00e9chantillon, par exemple du sang humain, les mol\u00e9cules de l\u2019\u00e9chantillon commencent \u00e0 osciller et \u00e9mettent \u00e0 leur tour des ondes lumineuses caract\u00e9ristiques. La vision est d\u2019identifier les signatures caract\u00e9ristiques qui permettent de diagnostiquer des maladies comme le cancer. Une tumeur en d\u00e9veloppement, par exemple, entra\u00eene de petits changements tr\u00e8s complexes dans la composition mol\u00e9culaire du sang. L\u2019objectif est de d\u00e9tecter ces changements, et de permettre le diagnostic pr\u00e9coce des maladies en mesurant l\u2019empreinte infrarouge d\u2019une simple goutte de sang humain.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab \u00c0 l\u2019avenir, notre technologie laser permettra \u00e0 nos coll\u00e8gues de d\u00e9tecter des changements auparavant ind\u00e9tectables dans des biomol\u00e9cules sp\u00e9cifiques telles que les prot\u00e9ines ou les lipides.
