Africa-Press<\/a> – Cameroun<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Le President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) ou Plan d’Urgence Pr\u00e9sidentiel de Lutte contre le SIDA en fran\u00e7ais, ce programme am\u00e9ricain de lutte contre la pand\u00e9mie du si\u00e8cle, sera d\u00e9sormais g\u00e9r\u00e9 par un africain, le Camerounais John Nkengasong, a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 le c\u00e9l\u00e8bre magazine am\u00e9ricain \u00ab New York Times \u00bb sur son site internet le mardi 21 septembre 2021. L\u2019actuel directeur du Centers for Disease Control and Prevention est pressenti par le pr\u00e9sident am\u00e9ricain Joe Biden pour diriger ce programme, lequel devrait officialiser cette annonce dans les prochains jours, pr\u00e9cise le media newyorkais.<\/p>\n

John Nkengasong deviendrait alors le tout premier africain \u00e0 prendre les commandes de ce programme. \u00ab C’est un \u00e9norme pas en avant pour le gouvernement am\u00e9ricain de nommer quelqu’un de la r\u00e9gion o\u00f9 se trouve une grande partie du travail du PEPFAR \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Mitchell Warren, directeur ex\u00e9cutif d’AVAC, une organisation \u00e0 but non lucratif promouvant le traitement du VIH dans le monde entier. \u00ab Cela montre un engagement \u00e0 vraiment \u00e9couter et apprendre des personnes que le PEPFAR est cens\u00e9 servir. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Le PEPFAR est une op\u00e9ration de 7 milliards de dollars qui finance et fixe des objectifs pour les soins du SIDA dans de nombreux pays dans le monde, dont la plupart en Afrique.<\/p>\n

Le Camerounais, tout juste d\u00e9sign\u00e9 par le \u00ab Time \u00bb parmi les 100 personnalit\u00e9s les plus influentes du monde entier en 2021, devrait succ\u00e9der \u00e0 l\u2019am\u00e9ricaine Deborah Birx, qui a laiss\u00e9 vacant ce poste depuis son d\u00e9part en f\u00e9vrier 2020.<\/p>\n

Le Dr Nkengasong est le directeur du CDC Afrique depuis 2016, date de la cr\u00e9ation de l’organisation. Il a des d\u00e9cennies d’exp\u00e9rience dans le domaine de la sant\u00e9 mondiale, avec de longs s\u00e9jours \u00e0 l’Organisation mondiale de la sant\u00e9 et aux Centers for Disease Control and Prevention des \u00c9tats-Unis.
