L&rsquo;\u00e9tude des images fournies par Hubble a permis de distinguer une activit\u00e9 volcanique sur cette plan\u00e8te baptis\u00e9e GJ 1132 b et situ\u00e9e \u00e0 41 ann\u00e9es lumi\u00e8res du syst\u00e8me solaire. C&rsquo;est la premi\u00e8re fois qu&rsquo;une atmosph\u00e8re secondaire est d\u00e9tect\u00e9e sur une plan\u00e8te hors du syst\u00e8me solaire.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Nous avons d&rsquo;abord pens\u00e9 que ces plan\u00e8tes fortement irradi\u00e9es \u00e9taient assez &lsquo;ennuyeuses&rsquo;, car nous pensions qu&rsquo;elles avaient perdu leur atmosph\u00e8re\u00a0\u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Raissa Estrella, co-auteur de l&rsquo;\u00e9tude au Jet Propulsion Laboratory de la NASA \u00e0 Pasadena (Californie), dans une note scientifique publi\u00e9e par la NASA et l&rsquo;ESA, l&rsquo;Agence spatiale europ\u00e9enne. \u00ab\u00a0C&rsquo;est passionnant, car nous pensons que l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re que nous voyons aujourd&rsquo;hui a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9e.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>La combinaison d&rsquo;observations directes et de mod\u00e9lisations informatiques ont permis d&rsquo;\u00e9tablir que cette atmosph\u00e8re secondaire \u00e9tait constitu\u00e9e d&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne, de cyanure d&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne, de m\u00e9thane, d&rsquo;ammoniac et d&rsquo;une brume d&rsquo;hydrocarbures, alors que l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re primaire de GJ 1132 b aurait plut\u00f4t \u00e9t\u00e9 constitu\u00e9e d&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne et d&rsquo;h\u00e9lium. Les \u00e9tudes des astronomes sugg\u00e8rent que l&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne initial pourrait avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0absorb\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb par le manteau de magma en fusion de l&rsquo;exoplan\u00e8te. Il serait \u00e0 pr\u00e9sent lib\u00e9r\u00e9 par ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne volcanique, formant cette nouvelle atmosph\u00e8re. L&rsquo;\u00e9quipe scientifique fait l&rsquo;hypoth\u00e8se que la cro\u00fbte terrestre de GJ 1132 b est tr\u00e8s fine et qu&rsquo;elle serait trop fragile pour supporter un quelconque relief ressemblant \u00e0 des montagnes volcaniques. Le terrain plat pourrait \u00eatre fissur\u00e9, \u00e0 l&rsquo;image d&rsquo;une coquille d&rsquo;\u0153uf, ce qui pourrait expliquer la lib\u00e9ration de l&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne et autres gaz.<\/p>\n<p>Cette d\u00e9couverte est importante, car elle donne aux scientifiques travaillant sur les exoplan\u00e8tes un moyen de mieux comprendre la g\u00e9ologie d&rsquo;une plan\u00e8te \u00e0 partir de son atmosph\u00e8re\u00a0\u00bb, explique Paul Rimmer, de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de Cambridge (Royaume-Uni) dans le communiqu\u00e9. \u00ab\u00a0Cette atmosph\u00e8re secondaire provient de la surface et de l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur de la plan\u00e8te, et c&rsquo;est donc une fen\u00eatre qui s&rsquo;ouvre sur la g\u00e9ologie d&rsquo;un autre monde\u00a0\u00bb, poursuit Paul Rimmer. \u00ab\u00a0Il reste encore beaucoup de travail \u00e0 faire pour regarder \u00e0 travers, mais la d\u00e9couverte de cette fen\u00eatre est d&rsquo;une grande importance.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Lorsque les astronomes utiliseront le futur t\u00e9lescope spatial James Webb pour \u00e9tudier GJ 1132 b, il est possible qu&rsquo;ils puissent observer \u00ab\u00a0non pas le spectre de l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re, mais plut\u00f4t le spectre de la surface\u00a0\u00bb et donc une activit\u00e9 g\u00e9ologique r\u00e9elle, avance Mark Swain, chef d&rsquo;\u00e9quipe au Jet Propulsion Laboratory.<\/p>\n<p>GJ1132 b et la Terre partagent quelques points communs : toutes deux pr\u00e9sentent une densit\u00e9, une taille et un \u00e2ge similaires et disposeraient d&rsquo;une atmosph\u00e8re compos\u00e9e en grande partie d&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne au d\u00e9but et ont \u00e9t\u00e9 chauff\u00e9es avant de refroidir.
