Africa-Press – Cameroun. <\/strong><\/span>Prominent among those who participated in Saturday\u2019s walk in Limbe were Henry Njalla Quan Jr, Founder of the Njalla Quan Sports Academy and President of the South-West League of FECAFOOT as well as Hon. Findi Stanley Mokondo, one of the two Members of Parliament for Fako East and Fako II (Muyuka) CPDM Section President.<\/p>\n

The 10-kilometer sports walk on Saturday, December 4, 2021, took the participants from the Bota Hospital in Middle-Farms to the Njalla Quan Sports Academy in Man O\u2019 War Bay, Limbe.<\/p>\n

After the stretching and cooling down, Dr. Martin Ekiti, technical partner of \u00ab\u00a0The Walk for Life\u201d who doubles as CEO of The Grey Lab sensitized the participants on the dangers of a sedentary lifestyle and the need for regular medical screening for non-communicable diseases like hypertension, diabetes, and obesity.<\/p>\n

In the raffle draw that followed the health talk, over 150 branded products, including bags of rice, books, groceries, and other home necessities, were won by partakers of The Walk for Life.<\/p>\n

Rose Tima Motanga alias Pichichi Baby, winner of a Led Smart TV could not hide her joy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love sports so much. So when I heard of Season II of The Walk for Life, I told my niece that I needed to take part in it. Before going to bed on Friday night, I set an alarm for 4:30 am. I was at Bota at 5 am to prepare for the walk. I am very happy. This is a huge surprise for me because December 15 is my birthday. This is a huge birthday gift for me. I am overwhelmed with joy. I thank the organizers. They should continue to organize this community health campaign. I am a mother of one but I still prioritize sports. Others should do the same. Sports is good,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Activities leading up to season 2 of The Walk of Life began on Thursday, December 2, 2021, with a two-day screening for non-communicable diseases.<\/p>\n

No fewer than 50 medical professionals of different specialties screened members of the population for diabetes, hypertension, and obesity on December 2 and December 3 in all the three subdivisions that make up Limbe.<\/p>\n

As a novelty for this second edition of The Walk for Life, the vision-bearer of Central Africa\u2019s biggest community health and fitness event, Henry Njalla Quan Jr ensured that members of the public had their eyes screened thanks to a partnership with the Presbyterian Paediatrics Eye Hospital Limbe.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis event which is in its second edition included free screening for illnesses related to lack of physical activities notably hypertension, diabetes, and obesity as well as eye consultation featuring visual acuity test, fundoscopy, refraction, and cataract screening on December 2 and December 3,\u201d said Henry Njalla Quan Jr., Founder of the Njalla Quan Sports Academy and vision-bearer of The Walk for Life.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are happy that the population has bought this vision. It was all free; free medical consultations and free drug dispensation. As Cameroonians, we know how much it costs to get into a hospital, consult, possibly see a specialist and then get drugs. It’s been a very difficult year, and I think this initiative came just in time to provide the general public with a unique Christmas gift,\u00a0\u00bb said Njalla Quan Jr.<\/p>\n

Dr. Fanny Matzo, Medical Director of the Njalla Quan Sports Academy Stay Active Club has advised those diagnosed with either of the three non-communicable diseases \u2013 diabetes, hypertension, and obesity to join the Stay Active Club for closer follow-up.<\/p>\n

Mbua Matofe, Administrator of the Presbyterian Pediatrics Eye Hospital Limbe says those referred to the Presbyterian Pediatrics Eye Hospital Limbe will not pay any consultation fee.<\/p>\n
