Africa-Press – Cameroun. <\/strong><\/span>The motorway was opened to the public this Wednesday January 5, 2022, four days to the Africa Cup of Nations which begins on January 9.<\/p>\n

The event to officially open the motorway to the public began with an Ecumenical prayer. Housing and Urban Development Minister, Celestine Ketcha Courtes chaired the ceremony. She was accompanied by the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Ngale Bibehe.<\/p>\n

Cameroonians, especially the locals, massively turned out to witness the official opening of the motorway as promised by the Housing and Urban Development Minister last month.<\/p>\n

The motorway will facilitate traffic flow in the city, especially for Group A and C teams that will be lodged in Cameroon\u2019s Capital, Yaounde. These teams will sometimes have to crisscross the city to hold training sessions.<\/p>\n

Prior to opening the motorway , the Minister visited the locals on January 4 and cautioned them to adopt responsible and prudent behavior. Accordingly, inhabitants of the Yaound\u00e9 3, and 4 Divisions will have to ensure that kids stay away from the motorway.<\/p>\n

In a press release announcing the opening of the road, the Minister says \u201c A motorway is not an urban road. Commuters should not attempt to cross the road, else they risk being crushed by oncoming vehicles, causing accidents. Parking is also prohibited. When people know that it\u2019s a motorway, they do not expect to see cars parked\u201d.<\/p>\n

The motorway whose construction began in 2015, reduces traffic time from Yaound\u00e9 to Nsimalen from 30 to 10 minutes.<\/p>\n

The construction was carried out by China Communication Construction Company Ltd.<\/p>\n
