E\u0301tant un produit structurant avec un marche\u0301 tre\u0300s averti, celui des chocolatiers et des confiseurs, nous avons de\u0301cide\u0301 de de\u0301velopper deux argumentaires pour promouvoir le label cacao rouge du Cameroun \u00bb, a explique\u0301 Michel Gonomy, chef du service des indications ge\u0301ographiques, des dessins et mode\u0300les et autres signes distinctifs a\u0300 l\u2019OAPI, lors du colloque international sur le de\u0301veloppement des indications ge\u0301ographiques en Afrique, tenu du 17 au 19 avril 2024 a\u0300 Douala, la capitale e\u0301conomique du Cameroun.<\/p>\n<p>Michel Gonomy affirme qu\u2019une e\u0301tude scientifique a de\u0301montre\u0301 que certaines re\u0301gions du Cameroun, notamment le Centre, le Sud, le Sud-Ouest et l\u2019Est, pre\u0301sentent des facteurs caracte\u0301ristiques qui confe\u0300rent au cacao une coloration \u00ab beaucoup plus rouge \u00bb, caracte\u0301ristiques inexistantes dans la re\u0301gion du Nord. \u00ab Partant de cette spe\u0301cificite\u0301 et de la re\u0301putation du cacao, il e\u0301tait ne\u0301cessaire de de\u0301velopper une e\u0301tude de marche\u0301 qui a re\u0301ve\u0301le\u0301 que le cacao rouge du Cameroun posse\u0300de un fort potentiel de revenus \u00bb, poursuit-il. Toutefois, sur le plan scientifique, il s\u2019est ave\u0301re\u0301 ne\u0301cessaire de pousser l\u2019analyse plus loin en de\u0301terminant le seuil de coloration du cacao rouge pour re\u0301pondre aux exigences du marche\u0301 europe\u0301en. \u00ab C\u2019est pour cette raison que le Conseil interprofessionnel du cacao et du cafe\u0301 (CICC) a demande\u0301 une analyse comple\u0301mentaire en laboratoire et l\u2019acquisition d\u2019un instrument permettant de de\u0301finir pre\u0301cise\u0301ment ce seuil de coloration. Ces deux e\u0301le\u0301ments sont en cours de re\u0301alisation \u00bb, explique le chef du service des indications ge\u0301ographiques, des dessins et mode\u0300les et autres signes distinctifs a\u0300 l\u2019OAPI.<\/p>\n<p>Si cette analyse se re\u0301ve\u0300le concluante, re\u0301ve\u0300le-t-on a\u0300 l\u2019OAPI, cela pourrait ouvrir la voie a\u0300 la labe\u0301lisation du cacao rouge du Cameroun. La date exacte n\u2019est pas fixe\u0301e, mais l\u2019OAPI estime qu\u2019une de\u0301marche normale vers l\u2019indication ge\u0301ographique est complexe et prend en moyenne entre 5 et 7 ans. Ce qui laisse supposer que le processus pourrait se prolonger apre\u0300s 2024, anne\u0301e de clo\u0302ture de la phase 2 (2017-2024) du Projet d\u2019appui a\u0300 la mise en place des indications ge\u0301ographiques dans les 17 E\u0301tats membres de l\u2019OAPI (PAMPIG), pilote\u0301 par l\u2019OAPI et finance\u0301 a\u0300 hauteur de 3,5 millions d\u2019euros (plus de 2,2 milliards de FCFA) par l\u2019Agence franc\u0327aise de de\u0301veloppement (AFD) avec l\u2019assistance technique du Centre de coope\u0301ration internationale en recherche agronomique pour le de\u0301veloppement (CIRAD). Cependant, Michel Gonomy, qui est e\u0301galement responsable du PAMPIG, envisage une troisie\u0300me phase du projet qui pourrait potentiellement aboutir a\u0300 la labe\u0301lisation en IG du cacao rouge du Cameroun.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019objectif, selon les informations rec\u0327ues, est de \u00ab prote\u0301ger ce cacao tout en lui confe\u0301rant une reconnaissance et une protection juridique institutionnelle \u00bb. A\u0300 travers cette dualite\u0301 juridique et e\u0301conomique, expliquent les experts de l\u2019OAPI, l\u2019Indication ge\u0301ographique permettra de positionner le cacao rouge du Cameroun sur un segment de marche\u0301 haut de gamme et d\u2019en augmenter le prix. Cette valorisation re\u0301sulte de l\u2019instauration d\u2019une prime de qualite\u0301 par l\u2019E\u0301tat du Cameroun, destine\u0301e a\u0300 re\u0301pondre aux normes et aux exigences de qualite\u0301 du marche\u0301 international pour le cacao exporte\u0301.<\/p>\n<p>Selon l\u2019OAPI, la dernie\u0300re convention signe\u0301e en 2020 entre le club des chocolatiers engage\u0301s et les producteurs de cacao du Cameroun a permis d\u2019augmenter le prix du kilogramme de cacao de 1 640 FCFA a\u0300 4 225 FCFA en 2024, e\u0301tablissant ainsi un record mondial pour le prix de la fe\u0300ve. Cette hausse est en partie due a\u0300 une baisse de production pre\u0301vue chez les deux principaux producteurs mondiaux, la Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire et le Ghana.
