Africa-Press<\/a> – Cameroun<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The \u201cSub-prefectural decision no. 70\/2021 prohibiting the holding of all public meetings by a certain group called North West Lawyers Association in Bamenda II Subdivision \u201dis dated Thursday, September 9, 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat with effect from the date of signature of the present decision, a certain group called North West Lawyers Association is hereby prohibited from holding any public meeting in Bamenda II Subdivision,\u201d Nkongho Manchang said.<\/p>\n

He said his decision is based on the fact that the North West Lawyers Association is \u201coperating illegally\u201d, holding undeclared meetings.<\/p>\n

The Divisional Officer for Bamenda II warned that any group of persons who contravene this order shall be punished in accordance with the provisions of the regulation in force.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Brigade Commander of Ntarinkon, the Commissioner of the 3 rd and 4 th district police are each in their respective spheres of competence charged with the strict implementation of this decision,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Nkongho Manchang says his decision respects the constitution as well as law no. 90\/053 of 19 th December 1990 relating to freedom of association. He draws his powers from decree no. 2008\/377 of 12 th November 2008 defining the powers and duties of heads of administrative units and those to assist them in the discharge of their duties.<\/p>\n

It is not known if the DOs decision is related to the ongoing socio-political situation in Cameroon North West and South West Regions.<\/p>\n

Cameroon-Info.Net recalls that Cameroon’s state forces have been battling to dislodge armed separatists who pitched their tents in the North West and South West Regions since Anglophone protests transformed into an armed conflict in 2017.<\/p>\n

Corporate demands by Common Law Lawyers and Anglophone Teachers led to protests in November 2016. The street demonstrations later morphed into ongoing running gun battles between state forces and armed separatist fighters in the predominantly English-speaking regions, leading to untold destruction of human lives, their habitats, and livelihoods.<\/p>\n

Tit-for-tat killings, kidnappings, arsons, maiming, and outright terror have become part of daily lives in some parts of the English-speaking regions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
