Africa-Press – Cape verde. The English travel website “Hand luggage Only” listed the top 10 of the best things to do when visiting Cape Verde on vacation. Despite mentioning that all islands have their “charm”, the Top 10 of this site leaves Maio, Brava, Santiago and Santa Luzia out. On the other hand, Santa Maria beach appears first, with a horse ride at sunset.

This specialty publication immediately highlights that Cape Verde is between 5 and 6 hours by direct flight from London and that it has 10 islands, each with its “charm” and “feel”.

Based on this, they selected some of the best things to do on holiday in Cape Verde, describing that Cape Verde is “an amazing island nation, which is simply beautiful to explore”.

Right at the top of the list comes Praia de Santa Maria, with a proposal for a horseback ride at sunset.

“Santa Maria is the biggest and busiest beach on Sal, but you don’t have to go just for the water. It also has extensive salt flats, just beyond the waterline, where many horseback rides begin”, they write, referring to the possibility of horseback riding on more islands, whether on beaches, trails or in the mountains.

Climb the Fire Volcano

The Fogo volcano comes in second place, in a proposal for those looking for “adventure”. Although they bring some inaccuracies, such as the fact that they say that there have been no eruptions for about 400 years, which is not true, as the last one was in 2014/2015. Inaccuracies aside, they highlight the “picturesque” path, the villages and the “surprises” along the way.

In third place is riding a buggy (quad) in the dunes of Boa Vista

“Boa Vista is one of the most popular islands that attract visitors to Cape Verde and is a deserted, paradisiacal island, perfect for off-road adventures in the dunes”, they point out, citing, for example, Praia de Chaves.

Explore Santo Antão and Baía das Gatas

After experiencing this top 10 of the best things to do in Cape Verde, head to Santo Antão, on an exploratory trip, on an island “more lush and green” than Boa Vista.

“Once here, be sure to visit Xôxo and take the scenic trails between Lin d ́Corvo and João Afonso”, they suggest, warning that some of the trails can be “difficult”, so you need to be well prepared for some of the hikes longer, but “worth it”.

Then appears Baía das Gatas, the ideal place to “walk” along its coast.

“The coast of São Vicente is so beautiful to explore and a totally stunning place to behold”, they describe.

Sal and Boa Vista dominate proposals

In sixth place comes learning how to kite, on Kite Beach, in Sal, and then moving on to watching turtles in the top 7, of the 10 best things to do in Cape Verde.

Already in eighth position, comes the experience of salt baths in the Crater of Pedra de Lume, Sal. Here, the publication highlights the fact that these “very hot pools” have a “mineral level higher than the Dead Sea”, being therefore “great for the skin” and that no one “will sink” there.

Still on Sal, in ninth position, the proposal is to set off on the adventure of “exploring” Santa Maria. From live music, to craft shops and “narrow streets”.

At the end of this top 10 of the best things to do in Cape Verde, on a holiday visit, there is a suggestion for a “chillout” (relax) on Varandinha beach, Boa Vista.

“Varandinha beach is one of those beaches that make you feel alone on the island of Boa Vista. It is totally unspoilt, with a stunning area to visit, on a relaxing day on the island.”

Largest issuing market

It should be noted that most of the suggestions in this top 10 focus on Sal and Boa Vista, probably because it is the preferred destination for the English public, the country of origin of this site, which also represents the largest outbound market for tourists to these two islands.

Especially because, with the tourist recovery, in the third quarter of 2022, the country’s hotel establishments welcomed around 239 thousand guests, with Sal alone accounting for 70.1% of total entries, followed by Boa Vista, with 16.3 %.

The main source of tourists, between July and September, was the United Kingdom, with the British representing 32.3% of total arrivals.
