Africa-Press – Cape verde. Tarrafal de Monte Trigo is the first area in the municipality of Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, where grogue producers are already in full harvest of sugar cane, as Inforpress found.
In the valleys of Ribeira da Cruz, Alto Mira and Ribeira das Patas, farmers are preparing to start harvesting sugar cane by the end of this month of December or in the first week of January, according to some producers, who foresee a “good harvest”, after the rains that occurred in 2022.
The local associations of farmers therefore foresee a good harvest, which will translate into an increase in the production of grogue, whose manufacturing period takes place between January and June.
The president of the Association of Farmers of Alto Mira, Idarlino Fortes, explained that when it rains, as happened this year, there is “a good harvest”.
