Africa-Press – Cape verde. The National Library donated more than 6,000 books in 2022, to more than 30 institutions nationwide, said curator Matilde Santos this Thursday, 5, for whom the institution’s performance during 2022 was “extremely positive”.

The books were delivered to kindergartens, schools, associations and municipal libraries, said the curator quoted by Inforpress.

“We donated more than 6 thousand books to more than 30 institutions nationwide. The balance is extremely positive because most of the activities that we had scheduled were able to materialize”.

On the other hand, he advanced that they managed to carry out the initiatives foreseen in the context of the reissues.

“We reissued Contra Mar e Vento, which was out of print, Chuva Braba. The Ilhéu de Contenda was also planned, which will come out at the beginning of this year”, she summarized.

Book fairs and mini-fairs

At the level of book fairs and mini-fairs held throughout 2022, he added that the institution he presides over exceeded “all expectations” and the goal was ten fairs and held 16 between the islands of Santiago, São Vicente, Ilha da Boa Sight and Fire.

“In terms of books sold, the classics Chiquinho, Contra Mar e Vento, Famintos were at the forefront. In November, after the launch of Chuva Braba, the book ended up being the best seller at the Christmas fair held in December”, pointed out Matilde Santos.

“It shows that people are concerned about reading and that the book has become part of the range of gifts also offered at Christmas” said the curator.

For this year, 2023, he said that the National Library intends to re-edit between two or three works whose names he did not advance.
