Africa-Press – Cape verde. The 2023 edition of the Corrida da Liberdade, an event organized by Praia City Council, which takes place on the 13th of January, returns this year to the streets of the capital with the race to be played in the men’s and women’s ten kilometers.

According to information provided by the Associação de Santiago Sul de Atletismo (ASSA), the event continues to have the start at Praça Alexandre de Albuquerque, in Platô, and the finish line at Largo do Estádio da Várzea, and also includes competitions in the junior categories, veterans and walks in the distances of five and two kilometers.

The organization announced monetary prizes of 80,000 escudos, 60,000 and 40,000 escudos for the top three male and female seniors (ten kilometers), in addition to rewards up to the eighth place.

In the junior/school category, the race takes place over five kilometres, placing prizes of ten thousand escudos, eight thousand and seven thousand escudos, for those who reached the podium.

Also in the five kilometers is scheduled the test for veterans, in both genders, with monetary prizes in the order of 20, 15 and ten thousand escudos for the first three classified.

The particularity of this year is that a test is scheduled for employees of Praia Municipal Council, at a distance of five kilometers, with prizes of 30, 20, ten, seven and five thousand escudos, respectively for the first five classified, and prizes in sports kits up to eighth place.

Established by the Municipality of Praia in 1998, to mark the Day of Freedom and Democracy, January 13th, the Freedom Run has been the race that involves the largest number of national and international athletes and a significant number of non-federated athletes.
