Africa-Press – Cape verde. Brazil has expressed institutional support to the Government of Cape Verde in the intention of baptizing the National Stadium, in Cidade da Praia, with the name “Pelé”, in honor of the former Brazilian footballer.
This intention of the government of Luís Inácio “Lula” da Silva was manifested this Wednesday, 11th, through a letter from the Ministry of Citizenship, sent to the Cape Verde ambassador accredited in Brazil, José Pedro Chantre D’Oliveira.
Recognition
The document, according to a government note, was signed by the Minister of State for Sport of Brazil, Ana Beatriz Moser, recognizing this initiative by Cape Verde “as converging with the objectives” of the Brazilian federal administration.
It is worth remembering that several petitions still circulate on social networks, in the country and in the diaspora, against the attribution of the name Estádio Pelé to the largest sports infrastructure in the country.
The government has already said it will go ahead anyway.
