Africa-Press – Cape verde. The lack of water in the Alto de São Tomé area, in Porto Novo, Santo Antão, has reached its limit, say residents. Some, without water in the network for three years, say they are annoyed by the problem and there are those who say that the situation is so bad that some residents are getting thirsty. The distribution of water by autotanque has created constraints, at a time when people from Porto Novo have been complaining about the lack of quality of the water distributed in the city.
In Alto de São Tomé, there have been residents for about three years without water in the taps. To remedy the situation, the City Council of Porto Novo started distributing water in automatic tanks, but the solution has proved to be embarrassing, as one of the residents told A Nação.
“In my case, I haven’t had water in the network for three years. I’ve been buying water from the City Council autotank, but it’s the same thing as not having water. It has been embarrassing because I keep waiting for them to come fill up and, most of the time, there are delays”, complains Maria.
This source advances that, in this scenario, he has to “run after the autotank to beg him to fill me up”. which is said to be irritated by the lack of water in Alto de São Tomé.
Residents go thirsty
But the crisis becomes more serious when there is a lack of drinking water, according to resident Manuel. Until then, the residents drank the water that arrived from the network, but with the lack of water in the taps, they had to resort to water from stores, as they did not trust the hygiene of the water distributed in the chamber’s autotanks. But not everyone can buy.
“To get an idea of how serious the situation is, many residents of this area have been thirsty. No one trusts the distributed water for drinking and we have to go buy water in stores, which is more expensive”, specified Manuel.
general discontent
By the way, the dissatisfaction with the quality of the water distributed in the city has been, in recent times, a complaint of Portonovenses who have not trusted the water to drink.
In Alto de São Tomé works are under way to solve the problem of lack of water in the network. The works were expected to be ready in December, but so far the residents still have no response and no “air” in the taps.
