Africa-Press – Cape verde. Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva said, yesterday in Mindelo, that the Ocean Race, places Cape Verde and the city of Mindelo at the center of world interest, and that it will bring “good things”. However, the reception of the race in the country is already generating some controversy after a report from Forbes that Cape Verde invested 3.6 million euros to host the Ocean Race. Also, companies that provide sound and audiovisual services in São Vicente accused the Government and the organization of the regatta of excluding them from providing services for the event.

The passage of the largest regatta in the world through Mindelo, considered the head of government, brings “high notoriety” to Cape Verde and, when it ends, “leaves good things for São Vicente and Cape Verde”, such as infrastructure.

The pontoon, built for this purpose, he said, will remain in the country.

“The pier where the boats will stop will stay here, will be owned by Cape Verde and will be used for other events. In the Tanquinho area, a technical and architectural design competition has already been launched and will be rehabilitated so that we can have accessibility in the Matiota area and create infrastructures in the Cabnave area that will host upcoming events”, he explained, quoted by Inforpress.

On the other hand, he pointed out that São Vicente is already gaining with full hotels, full restaurants, circulation of the functioning economy, which impacts the local economy.

“Historic moment”

On his turn, the President of the Ocean Race, Richard Brises, was proud to be in São Vicente, defending that it is a historic moment.

“It is historic because it is the first time that the Ocean Race has visited this beautiful nation, which is Cape Verde, it is historic because it is the first time that the park has opened here, in which the organization of this world-class sport brought together the forces with the Government of Cape Verde to carry out the Ocean Race in the country and in defense of a planet and better health of the oceans”, he maintained.

Richard Brises also congratulated the local organization, noting that they made a beautiful reception park and a beautiful stopover in Cape Verde, for which he said he really believes that everyone will enjoy the event.

very positive impact

On the part of the local authority, the deputy mayor of São Vicente, Rodrigo Martins, stressed the importance of the Ocean Race in promoting the island of São Vicente for tourism, for investments, but also for the message of preservation of the oceans and environmental sustainability it conveys.

“The arrival of the most emblematic and largest regatta in the world will have a very positive impact on the local economy and its multiplier effects”, he reinforced.

critical voices

However, the reception of the race, in the country, is already generating some controversy after a report from Forbes advanced that Cape Verde invests 3.6 million euros to host the Ocean Race.

This, taking into account the country’s economic situation and inflation, with the sharp drop in purchasing power in Cape Verde.

Also, companies that provide sound and audiovisual services in São Vicente accused the Government and the organization of the regatta of excluding them from providing services for the event.

A situation that has already been denied by the Government itself, in a statement.
