Bread price should drop: Bakeries and stores with discount on the purchase of flour

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The 50 kg bag of wheat flour goes, as of today, from 4600 to 4100 escudos. The bakery industry will also have a discount, with a bag costing 3,936 escudos, which should represent a drop in the price of carcass bread. The decision, with immediate effect, came out of a meeting, this Tuesday, 24, between Moave and the Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva.

The Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, visited, this Tuesday, the Moave facilities in São Vicente, as part of a process of negotiation and articulation between Government departments and the wheat flour production company, headquartered in that island.

As a result of this articulation, the minister revealed to the press, the price of a bag of wheat flour was reduced from 4600 to 4100 escudos/bag.

In addition, the bakery industry will also have a discount, with the bag going for 3936 escudos.

Enriched

It is, according to the official, a flour that is also enriched in iron and folic acid, in accordance with the requirements of our legislation, with regard to nutritional parameters.

“We think we arrived at an affordable price, taking into account the international situation. We are seeing a rise in prices worldwide, all countries are suffering”, underlined Gilberto Silva, according to which, despite an international trend towards lower prices, this still does not happen in practice in Cape Verde. .

The Government, he said, will remain attentive to the situation and continue to analyze it, being able to intervene where necessary, to ensure that the food system, as a whole, is resilient.

Lower price of bread

This decision should bring down the price of carcass bread, which, in recent days, has been sold for up to 30 escudos.

Gilberto Silva recalls, however, that the country does not regulate the price of bread, but the weight of the carcass.

The decision takes effect immediately, that is, from this Tuesday, January 24.
