Africa-Press – Cape verde. With the visit of the Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister for youth and sport to Porto Novo, starting today, young people from this municipality are once again showing concern about the state of the lawn at the municipal stadium and the construction of the covered pavilion. Therefore, they demand a “commitment” from the Government with these infrastructures.
For the young footballer Emanuel Mendes, playing on the current synthetic turf of the Estádio Municipal do Porto Novo is “a shame”, which is why, in his view, the minister responsible for Sports should assume the “commitment” to help replace the lawn, already “quite degraded”.
For Marcos Barbosa, the replacement of the grass, which has already been in use for 14 years, should be “a priority” for the Government and Porto Novo City Council, since it is “impractical”.
Jorge Rodrigues, another young footballer, said that it is a “regrettable situation” that football is being played on that grass, which is already very deteriorated, thus constituting “risks” for practitioners.

In addition to replacing the Porto Novo municipal turf, the sports agents also demand from the Government, and from the municipality, the commitment to carry out the promised construction project of the covered sports pavilion.
“We want these two projects to come to fruition this year, in which Porto Novo was nominated for Cape Verdean Youth Capital”, said the young José Rodrigues.
The deputy minister, Carlos Monteiro, will be in Porto Novo starting today to launch the municipality as the 2023 youth capital city.
On his agenda, Carlos Monteiro has planned a visit to the basketball initiation project and will attend a futsal game, an opportunity that practitioners of both modalities should take advantage of to ask for the construction of the covered multi-sports facility again.
