Africa-Press – Cape verde. The National Director of Health, Jorge Noel Barreto, said on Monday that the current situation in the country points to a trend towards improvement, since there is a “drastic reduction” in the number of new cases identified.

Jorge Noel Barreto, who was speaking at the usual press conference on Mondays to make the assessment of the pandemic situation in the country, said that the period from January 17 to 30 was possible to analyze a total of 12.570 samples, representing an average of 808 samples analyzed per day, which allowed the identification of a total of 1.462 cases, an average of 104 cases per day and representing a positivity rate of 11.6%.

In the previous 14 days, i.e. from January 3 to 16, one of the most critical periods, a total of 31.346 samples were analyzed, with an average of 2.239 analyzed per day, which allowed the identification of a total of 11.068 new cases, thus representing an average of 7.991 new cases per day and a positivity rate of 35.3 percent.

“In fact, we see here that there is a tendency for improvement. There was a drastic reduction in the number of new cases between the first week of January, which we had reported a total of 7.182 cases, in this last week from January 24 to 30, we identified 332 new cases. There has been a very significant reduction in the occurrence of new cases of COVID-19 in Cabo Verde,” he said.
