Africa-Press – Cape verde. Young people from Santo Antão, São Vicente and São Nicolau will participate between today and Tuesday in the Regional Youth Forum. There are almost a hundred young people who will focus on the challenges and opportunities of the blue economy and creative economy sectors.
For two days, young people from the north of the country will “listen, debate and think of solutions” about the potential, opportunities and challenges of the blue economy sector and the creative economy in the northern islands of the country.
On this first day of the forum, in addition to the speeches at the official opening session, which took place at the University of Mindelo, work is planned in plenary, with the first panel on the theme “Opportunities for young people in the emerging sectors of the blue economy”.
Also for the morning period, another panel on “Blue Economy and the SDGs” is expected, in addition to the presentation of two projects in the blue economy sector.
Gender equality and equity
In the afternoon, to mark World Population Day, which is celebrated on Tuesday, the 11th, the program opens space for a workshop on gender equality and equity, in partnership with the Cape Verdean Institute for Equality and Equity do Género (ICIEG), and visits to the Oceanographic Center of Mindelo and to the Fazenda do Camarão.
This year, the four forums that precede the National Youth Forum will be held on the islands of São Vicente, which is ongoing and brings together young people from Santo Antão, São Vicente and São Nicolau, Santiago (young people from Santiago and Maio), Brava (young people from Fogo and Brava) and Boa Vista (young people from Sal and Boa Vista).
The Youth Forum is a Government initiative, carried out by the Institute of Sports and Youth, which has a partnership with the Joint Office of UNDP, UNFPA and UNICEF, and with “strong engagement” of city councils, public-private entities and society. civil.
