Porto Novo: Residents insist on implementing investments in the water and sanitation sectors

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The people from Porto Novo insisted today on the need for the Government to move forward with the investments planned since 2019, in the areas of water and sanitation in the city of Porto Novo, on the island of Santo Antão.

People from Porto Novo, approached by Inforpress, once again asked the Government to install a new water network in the city of Porto Novo, since the current one, in operation “for more than 20 years”, already has “many shortcomings”, thus creating problems in the supply of water to this city.

“The water has not reached the upper areas of the city of Porto Novo for a long time because the current network is already old and has many deficiencies,” said resident Jorge Sousa, recalling that the Government, in 2019, announced the installation of a new water distribution network in this urban centre as part of the Santo Antão water and sanitation project.

Another resident, António Lima, warns that the water supply situation in the city of Porto Novo is “very difficult” due to the fact that the distribution network is “very obsolete”, thus conditioning the arrival of the precious liquid to the highest areas.
