Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Electricity and Water Company (Electra) exempted the municipalities of Santo Antão from the pumping water costs for the supply of the populations in Planalto Leste, from Ribeira da Torre, in Ribeira Grande.
On the other hand, all the energy produced by the photovoltaic plant of this island, installed on the outskirts of the city of Porto Novo, is injected into the public network in charge of Electra, explains a note from the City Hall of Porto Novo.
This plant, with a power of 80 kilowatts, was set up in the framework of the project for water supply to the high areas of Santo Antão, financed in over 250 million escudos, under the Millenium Challange Account (MCA) program.
However, because of the drought, the Losnã spring, in Ribeira Grande, has had little availability of water, which has created constraints in terms of supply to Planalto Leste.
