Africa-Press – Cape verde. The vessel which was acquired by the Projecto Vitó Association, through the exit fund allocated by the Mava Foundation, is inaugurated today, in an act presided over by the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves.
The vessel, which was baptised with the name of Venus, in honour of the three fishermen from the island of Fogo who lost their lives while fishing in the Rombo Islets on 19 January 2021, is properly equipped to support the work carried out by this non-governmental organisation in its missions on the islands of Fogo, Brava and Rombo Islets.
The president of Projecto Vitó, Paulo Pina, said that naming and honoring the three fishermen, following the accident in the search for the fishermen, served as an argument for the association to convince funders of the need to acquire the boat, showing that the Fogo/Brava Region needs a vessel for search, rescue and transfer of patients.
The vessel has a hull length of 10.15 meters, three meters of breadth, two meters of cabin height, two 250 HP inboard engines, marine toilet with shower and has capacity for 15 people, with nine seats for people sitting and was conceived and suitable for coastal navigation as long as up to 60 miles from the harbor.
