Situation in Niger: President of the Republic is against any military intervention

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves guarantees that he has been following the situation of the coup d’état in Niger with great concern and stresses that Cape Verde does not support the restoration of Constitutionality through military intervention. In statements to Radio Alfa, from Fogo Island, he assured that the country will not integrate a possible military force.

In statements about the situation experienced in Niger, José Maria Neves, asks that the negotiation path be taken, of “intense negotiations, through diplomatic channels” to resolve the conflict.

The Head of State recognizes that the situation of coups d’état in Africa is becoming a crisis situation and that a deeper analysis must be carried out, in order to look for the causes, which, in his view, have to do with governance, with governance “and ultimately with people’s living conditions”.

“We have to do everything so that Governments can respond to people’s wishes and expectations. We have to create inclusive and strong institutions and have transparency, accountability in the management of public affairs and do everything for African men and women to live with much more dignity”, underlined JMN.

Cape Verde does not support military intervention

JMN asserts that Cape Verde does not support and would not integrate any military intervention action and asks for prudence in the analysis of this issue and its resolution.

“Any military intervention at this moment would aggravate the situation and turn the region into an explosive space, so I do not support any military intervention, I do not support the resolution of this conflict by force. I think we should all work to restore constitutional order, but under no circumstances through military intervention or armed conflict at this time”, clarifies the Cape Verdean Head of State.
