Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cabo Verde has already managed to vaccinate 51.7% of adolescents aged 12 to 17 years with two doses and 74.6% with one, under the vaccination program based on schools, reported today the Minister of Health, Arlindo do Rosário.
The data were revealed during a virtual press conference to talk about Cabo Verde’s experience in combating the COVID-19 pandemic, promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa.
“Although it has been a difficult two years, I am pleased to see Cabo Verde coming out of the acute phase of the pandemic after a severe wave of COVID-19,” Arlindo do Rosário said.
According to the Minister, however challenging the last wave, during the holiday season, it was remarkable that hospitals were not overloaded, routine health services continued to operate and the number of deaths was much lower than expected, with a lethality rate of around 0.7% below that caused by previous waves.
