The National Basketball Team is, since yesterday, Sunday, in the United States of America, the last stage of the preparation games for the world of the modality that will take place in Japan, Indonesia and Philippines from August 25th to September 10th . In Boston, Massachusetts, the National Team has already presented itself to the Cape Verdean community and will play a preparation game against Oklahoma State University.
Cape Verde will make its debut at the FIBA (International Basketball Federation) World Cup on August 26th, against Georgia, in a match to be played at the Okinawa Arena, in Japan. It will compete again on August 28th, this time, against its counterpart of the South Americans of Venezuela, counting for the second round, and ends its participation in the group stage, on the 30th of this month, against the Europeans of Slovenia.
National coach Emanuel Trovoada, in an interview with Rádio de Cabo Verde (RCV) said that the team is “working well”, despite some problems with physical exertion by Edy Tavares, Betinho Gomes, Will Semedo and Kevin Coronel.
“All of this derived from the first preparation phase, but nothing to worry about”, guaranteed the technician, praising the integration of Edy Tavares, who, according to him, is already “within the tactical plan” of the national team.
As part of its preparation, the Cape Verdean Basketball Team has already participated in a tournament in Italy, having subsequently traveled to Madrid (Spain), where it held two training games.
In this World Basketball Championship, Cape Verde shares Group F with the national teams of Slovenia, Georgia and Venezuela.
