A Senegalese military plane is already on the island of Sal to repatriate, this week, the survivors of the pirogue found last Tuesday, 15th, 150 miles from the coast of the island. According to the statement from the Attorney General’s Office, issued this Sunday, the 20th, these survivors were presented to the court on the 17th, within the framework of the “Legal Regime for Entry, Permanence, Exit and Expulsion of Foreigners from Cape Verdean Territory”.
Thus, the measure of placement in a temporary installation center was applied, with a view to guaranteeing their expulsion from the national territory.
For this purpose, says the same source, a Senegalese military plane is already on the island of Sal for their repatriation, with a trip scheduled for this week.
It should be remembered that these clandestine migrants were rescued in a vessel with an open mouth that was found 150 miles off the coast of the island of Sal last Tuesday, 15th, by a fishing vessel flying the Spanish flag.
It contained 38 survivors, as well as seven corpses, which will also be transferred to Senegal. The vessel, according to the testimony of the survivors and confirmation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Senegal, left Senegal with 101 occupants on board, including three teenagers. 56 migrants will have died during the journey to the northeast of Sal Island, Cape Verde.
