Africa-Press – Cape verde. The PAICV today demanded that the Government fulfil its responsibilities towards the city of Praia and challenged the executive to prove that it does not discriminate against the municipality by releasing the 193,000 contos for the PRRA works.
The demand of the African Party of Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV) was made by the deputy of the constituency of Santiago Sul, Julião Varela, in statements to the press, at the end of the visit that the national elected officials made today to the municipality of Praia.
“We visited a number of PRRA works, which were financed by the Government in different neighbourhoods of the city of Praia.
We are here in Zona 4 in Ponta d ́Água and we see on the ground that these works are completely paralysed, works that started in 2019 under a programme contract signed between the Government and the City Council of Praia, therefore, there are about 21 works budgeted at 276 mil contos and so far only 30% has been made available “, he said.
According to the deputy, the 83 mil contos that were made available by the Government under the PRRA were not transferred to the account of the City Council of Praia, but to the account of Caixa Económica, which in turn absorbed this amount in full to amortise a debt that existed from the previous municipal team.
