Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Regional Political Commission of Santiago Sul of the UCID today considered that the locality of Simão Ribeiro is abandoned by the municipal and government authorities and lacks basic infrastructure.
This claim, which indicates that the locality lacks housing, water, electricity, sanitation and roads, was advanced in a press conference by the president of this Political Commission of the Independent and Democratic Cabo Verdean Union (UCID), Juciliano Vieira, who denounced that the informal neighborhood of Simão Ribeiro, born almost 20 years ago, suffers of the same problems of origin and which joins the list of degraded neighborhoods in the capital.
These remarks, Vieira noted, were confirmed during a visit by the elected officials of Santiago Sul to the site, having emphasised that “residents complain that politicians visit the area only at election times,” with electoral promises without subsequently being put into practice.
The emergence of informal neighbourhoods in the municipality of Praia, he noted, continues unabated and the public authorities, the City Council and the Government, are inattentive, not keeping up with their growth, causing difficulties of all kinds.
