PAICV proposes change in the designation of TC judges associated with the non-renewal of mandates

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The leader of the PAICV Parliamentary Group, João Baptista Pereira, today reiterated the need to change the designation or appointment of the judges of the Court of Auditors (TC), associated with the non-renewal of mandates.

João Baptista Pereira, who was speaking at a press conference, during which he denounced the alteration by the TC judges of the auditors’ report on the 2020 general State account, stressed that only in this way is it possible to overcome situations of lack of transparency in the management of public resources and partisanship of Public Administration.

“The PAICV defends that the president of the Court of Auditors should be nominated by the President of the Republic upon proposal of the Government and defends that the other judges should be recruited through a curriculum competition to be conducted by an independent jury, as happens in several stops.

Therefore, this would be a solution close to the one already in force in Portugal”, he pointed out. Mr Pereira also spoke of the possibility of the president of the Court of Auditors being appointed by Parliament, which then makes the budget available, as is the case in São Tomé and Príncipe or via the superior council of the judiciary.
