Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Government of Cape Verde will approve, “within days”, a law that will define the Internet as an “essential good” for all Cape Verdeans. The guarantee comes from the deputy prime minister and finance minister Olavo Correia.
Quoted by Inforpress, Olavo Correia, who is also Minister of Digital Economy, argued that the cost of Internet access “must be accessible to everyone”.
“In the coming days, at Government level, we will approve a law that will transform the Internet into an essential asset and so that the cost of access is more affordable so that students and everyone involved at the start-up level can have access in a simpler and less costly way”, he guaranteed.
The Executive, he said, is investing around 53 million euros in “massive and large-scale development” in technologies, thinking about young people and the country’s ambition in this field.
The government official reiterated that the internet is an “essential good”, just like roads and water, but that it can help young Cape Verdeans to “prove, innovate and solve solutions” in the national, regional or global market.
